Examples of approaches and methods used in this field are: abstraction, analogy, Eight Disciplines, heuristics, hypothesis testing, intuition, Lateral Thinking, Kepner-Tregoe, means-ends analysis, proof, reduction, research, root cause analysis, trial and error, TRIZ.
