Business Process Reengineering

Definition: Business Process Reengineering is a radical change philosophy by Hammer and Champy ('93) aimed at the fundamental reconsideration and the radical redesign of organizational processes, in order to achieve drastic improvement of current performance in cost, services and speed.
BPR helps organizations to fundamentally rethink their business processes, breaking down traditional functional departments (silos) and redesigning a process completely, typically with a strong customer focus and using IT as a key component.
It is the logical opposite of continuous improvement philosophies such as Kaizen, PDCA Cycle, Total Quality Management, etc..
